Using a panel of Latin American firms, I find evidence that a higher trading volume and a higher industry-adjusted trading volume are associated with higher firm investment (PPE, Total Assets, and Inventory). This relationship is higher in episodes where the firm decides to issue shares, and it is also greater for firms with tighter financial constraints and better investment opportunities. This evidence is consistent with a mispricing channel, where firms issue and invest the proceeds to take advantage of low cost of capital, or with a cost channel, where liquidity is associated with lower issuance costs. Also, it is less related with an informational channel, where a liquid market helps a manager to take more efficient decisions, since this channel does not necessarily predict an increase in investment, but only more efficient investment. © 2012 Elsevier B.V. Fixed investment, liquidity constraint, and monetary policy: Evidence from Japanese manufacturing firm panel data
We empirically analyze the effects of monetary policy shocks on real fixed investment using panel data on Japanese manufacturing firms to examine the existence of a balance sheet channel. We find that contractionary monetary policy statistically significantly increases the firms’ liquidity constraint. Especially, the smaller the firm size, the greater the effects of contractionary monetary poli...

This paper provides empirical evidence that firm size, liquidity, and Value-at-Risk (VaR) explain the cross-sectional variation in expected returns, while market beta and total volatility have almost no power to capture the cross-section of expected returns at the firm level. The strong positive relation between average returns and VaR turns out to be robust across different investment horizons...
متن کاملThe Impact of Leverage on Firm Investment: Evidence from Tehran Stock Exchange
The impact of financial leverage on firm investment is one of the most important issues in corporate finance. Debt overhang reduces the incentives of shareholder–management coalition in controlling the firm to invest in positive net-present-value investment opportunities. On the other hand, firms without debt in their financial structure face with a new problem known as over-investment. T...

I study a model of investment by financially constrained firms that are heterogeneous with respect to their exposure to an aggregate liquidity shock. A firm that is susceptible to the shock will mitigate its exposure by purchasing claims issued by a firm that is not. Liabilities of an unaffected firm may earn a liquidity premium due to their fungibility, and because they are backed by productiv...
